Our 12th Year

Dear Gibran,

It was a rainy evening when they told us we could finally take you home, Gibran :)


The bleak view from the hospital bed I'd been camping on suddenly didn't seem so bleak anymore, even with the rain. A week of fearing we'd lose you was over. No more wearing masks for fear we'd infect you with any small amount of bacteria we could be carrying. No more pumping milk every two hours to replace normal suckling that you couldn't do while in that incubator.



No more wishing we could kiss you or at the very least, hold you in our arms.



No more empty silence with unspoken questions of; "What if Gibran doesn't make it..? What'll we do with ourselves now, what'll happen to us..?" or holding hands to brace through the doctor's news of your progress and feel empty inside as if nothing could be normal again.

The most important thing is, Gibran, through you we learned that together we can continue to try and try to be better people for you, and for each other.

So on Baba and Mummy's fifth anniversary, we say thank Allah for giving us you because we never knew we could be oh-more-so complete with you in our lives.
