The Start of Red-Faces

Heard of the impression "red-faced"? I foresee plenty in the future. And they're all mine and H's.

Mom and I went to Kamdar for some materials this afternoon and Gib as usual was most fascinated with the mannequins. Did I tell you he gets VERY fascinated with mannequins...??? This started a long time ago. Some time in August last year if I recall correctly. I remember H chasing after him in Melbourne (that was in September) because he would run eagerly into shops to examine .. their mannequins. The more scantily clad the mannequins are, the better. Hmff.

The mannequins in Kamdar are relics from the 80s. One mannequin's hand came off when Gib pulled on it and the maid hastily screwed it back on in panic. They were all draped in doubtful fashions of drapey-cloths/materials. Gib stopped at every one of the mannequins and examined their outfits closely. They sure kept him nicely occupied as he didn't come to look for me even once. I must say that I quite liked the fact that I got an opportunity to shop in peace ;)

Then I went to check on him and he was (surprise surprise..) of course busy examining a mannequn's outfit.

Me: "Hey Gib, watcha doing?"
Gib: "Gib tengok patung ni tau, Mummy?" (typical.. speak to him in English, he'll reply in Malay).
Me: "Oh okay. Gib suka sangat tengok patung ye... Hmmm..."
Gib: "Mummy, Mummy.. mana cuckoo bird dia???"

And he started lifting the cloths covering the mannequin to examine whatever is under the cloths.

Me: "Gib! Don't do that! Hissshhhh.... Ini patung, mana ada cuckoo bird!" (shushing him in a quiet voice and stopping his actions just in time. Or so I thought..)
Gib: "Ohh. Dia takde cuckoo bird?"
Me: "Noo. Takde cuckoo bird. Dia patung. Patung takde cuckoo bird. It's not a real person like you and me, baby."

After two seconds of silence..

Gib: "Mummy!!"
Mummy: "Errm, yes darling??!" (quite startled at the sudden loudness of Gib's voice)
Gib: "Dia ni ada PEPET!!!"

OHMYGOSH!!!
